That's the way it is for me, Chris, or was, when I was doing what you're doing today. My only caveat would be about the philosophical pondering. Were I pondering the meaning of life while using a heat gun on varnish I would very likely pause too long, take the life out of the varnish and miss the meaning both of wooden boat ownership and of life itself. But what you say about owning and being owned by rings true. One reaches a point at which one becomes aware of a boat as a living thing.
